What are lab grown diamonds?If we put a laboratory diamond and a mined one in front of your eyes, you would find no difference.
You can think of them like ice from your fridge and ice from an iceberg: the product is the same but the origin is different.
Laboratory diamonds are made by creating the environment of a mined diamond inside a laboratory.
This way, it’s possible to create diamonds identical to mined ones but without their social and environmental impact.
Each of our diamonds is certified by IGI (International Gemological Institute) and meets SCS-007 Sustainability Rated Diamond standards. You’ll know exactly where and how your diamond was created.

“A diamond is forever” declares the mining industry. What it doesn’t tell you is that the environmental impact of their extraction will also last forever.
Have you ever seen land occupied by mines? It’s a huge and impressive hole in the Earth and to extract 1 carat of diamond it takes:
– digging and moving 300 tons of earth,
– impoverishing the territory, creating damage to biodiversity and violating human rights. Things for which we don’t want to be accomplices.
– 160kg of carbon dioxide involved in its extraction (same quantity emitted by a car traveling 630 km),
– 3,800 liters of water consumed in the entire process (enough to prepare 14,000 cups of tea).
A more ethical, accessible and transparent alternative: lab grown diamonds
Real diamonds, 100% identical to mined ones.
The lab grown diamonds chosen to create Fàbera jewelry are produced with reduced emission levels thanks to the use of renewable energy and are distinguished by:
– 0 tons of earth removed,
– their social impact is positive thanks to a transparent production chain and fair wages and normal working conditions,
– greater economic accessibility with a price up to 50%-60% lower than mined ones.It would be false to say that laboratory diamonds are 100% sustainable.
Nothing is nowadays. There’s still a long way to go and room for improvement, but we’re heading in the right direction and we can say that laboratory diamonds are certainly more ethical and environmentally friendly than mined ones.What we do daily is carefully select our partners so we can provide you with traceability and clarity about your diamond’s story.
The lab grown diamond has the same characteristics as the mined diamond, and therefore the same certification.
The diamond is evaluated according to the following 4 Cs

Carat (Carato)The carat is the unit of measurement of the diamond and refers to the diamond's weight, not its size. One carat equals 100 points. For example, half a carat equals 0.50 points and one and a half carats equals 1.50 points and so on. When purchasing jewelry with a central diamond and small diamonds, the total carats refers to all the diamonds present together.
Clarity (Purezza)The clarity of a diamond refers to the presence of imperfections. More imperfections (called inclusions) lower the diamond's value and vice versa. Often they are not easily visible to the naked eye and require the use of a microscope to be noticed. Being natural characteristics of a diamond's growth process, they are a distinctive element but can affect its ability to reflect light and compromise brightness and brilliance. For our jewelry, we select only diamonds with superior clarity, namely IF-VVS-VS.
Color (Colore)The quality of a diamond also depends on the absence of color. A chemically pure and perfect diamond has no hue. The color grading scale starts with the letter D, which means colorless, and proceeds in alphabetical order up to Z. Starting from the letter J, you begin to notice a slight yellowish tint that lowers the diamond's quality. For our jewelry, we select only diamonds with D-E-F colorations.
Cut (Taglio)The cut is a fundamental element in preparing a precious stone, as it significantly influences its interaction with light. Working a diamond requires precision in defining its proportions, symmetry and polishing to ensure optimal light reflection. Brightness depends on cut quality, as the greater the precision, the greater the stone's ability to reflect and refract light. For our jewelry, we select only IDEAL-EXCELLENT-VERY GOOD cuts.
Certificate (Certificato)To guarantee the quality, value and provenance of each diamond, the certificate is a fundamental element. For the evaluation to be objective and safe, a laboratory diamond requires examination by an international-level gemological institute. All Fàbera diamonds with a carat weight of 0.30 carats or higher are accompanied by an IGI certificate of authenticity. Diamonds sold in our Atelier also have the SCS-007 Sustainability Rated Diamond Certificate. This certification provides detailed information on the diamond's sustainability score, including its origin, compliance with strict ethical and environmental requirements, progress made toward climate neutrality, efforts to reduce environmental impacts from production, and investments in sustainability.
The certificate serves to guarantee the characteristics, value and origin of a diamond.
All Fàbera diamonds from 0.30 carats and up are accompanied by an IGI certificate. Our Atelier is the only one in Italy to be accredited SCS-007 Certified Sustainability Rated Diamonds Retailer.
